the path

An afternoon of embodied coaching
for women.

If life is feeling uncertain and you’re curious about what comes next, we invite you to join us on The Path. This workshop is designed for women navigating significant life transitions who want to reconnect with their steadiness, clarity, and sense of self.Together we will explore how our stories, beliefs, and experiences live not only in our minds, but also in our bodies. Embodied practices are potent resources for creating harmony, capacity and resilience in our nervous system, to help us meet whatever life brings our way. With just a little understanding of the science beneath the art of moving, breathing, sounding, playing, and reflecting, we will walk ourselves back to ourselves, to the wisdom of our bodies who have known all along what to do.

about the workshop

you look around your life and think...

How did I get here? And more importantly, is this it?

Life has a way of changing us. Whether through career shifts, divorce, loss, illness, motherhood, menopause, an empty nest, or a growing desire for something more, there are moments when the life we once knew no longer fits, and we are called to try on something new. When this happens....

we move

Movement softens the body. When we're unsure, we tend to brace, hold ourselves tight, wait for impact. Here we'll unwind that a little. Let the body do what the mind can't quite manage yet.

we sound

In the tapestry of our lives, our voices are the thread that pulls it altogether. Gently woven into its fabric, ever present, even in her silence. Our voices are a love story to ourselves. Can we allow ourselves the freedom to express those parts that have felt hidden or cast aside and if we do, how does that feel?

we play

When we are on the struggle bus, the last thing we think of doing is finding joy. Play is an essential part of our well-being and our re-building. Here we will get back to that and understand how it fosters resilience and agility in our nervous system.

we reflect

If you feel like you’ve disappeared into responsibilities and expectations, if it feels like you’re looking at your own life from the outside, you likely need some space, some time, and the right questions to help uncover the path back in. We’ll get quiet, write, and share what we discover.

we gather

We always knew we wanted to find a very special space to hold this workshop, and we found her - this oasis in East Vancouver offers us an inspirational sanctuary to do our work. The moment we stepped inside, we knew this was the place to gather - The Zen Den and Studio at Werklab.

our why

We've both been here. Not lost exactly, but somehow beside ourselves.
We built The Path because we wished something like it had existed for us — when we needed it most.
This isn't about reinvention. It isn't about self-improvement. It's about gathering what you may have set down along the way, and getting clearer on what actually matters to you now.

The Space

Inside the co-operative working space - Werklab at 1275 Venables St. Vancouver - is the Zen Den and Studio event space. This is where we will gather to move, sound, play and reflect. The space offers over 1500 square feet with natural light, hardwood floors and soaring ceilings. We have cozy nooks and private spaces with change rooms. We love it and we know you will too!

this is for you if:

  • You're ready to let go of who you "should" be.

  • You're longing to rediscover play, connection, and a sense of belonging.

  • You're curious about who you are, right now, in this season of life.

  • You're ready to get clear on what matters most in this next chapter.

  • You can feel your life leaning toward you, waiting.

  • You're finally willing to listen.

  • You're done waiting for the "right time", and you know this is it.

  • You're craving something real, not another surface-level fix or promise of "transformation."

This is may not be for you if:

  • You think sitting with yourself sounds like a waste of time.

  • You're looking for a structured workout plan or fitness regime.

  • You want to rehearse a speech or polish your vocal technique.

  • You're after a tidy self-improvement checklist to follow step by step.

  • You're looking for someone to have all the answers for you.

  • You want someone to hand you a blueprint for your life.

  • You'd rather skip the inner work and get straight to the results.

  • The idea of moving and making sounds feels too woo-woo and out there.

Good Questions

What is embodied coaching?
A great question! Most of us try to think our way through everything. Embodied coaching brings your voice and body to the party -- because they've been with you the whole time and have a lot to say. It's not just about what your mind thinks. It's about where your voice and body lead you. Your nervous system, your breath, the tension you carry in your shoulders -- these aren't obstacles to clarity. They're part of the map.
Okay, but what are we actually going to do?
We're going to get a little playful. We'll make some sounds with our voices (yes, really), do some breathing and movement practices that help you land back in your body, and then get brave together with some questions worth sitting with. You'll have time to journal, and opportunities to share -- but you won't be asked to share anything you're not ready for.
What if I feel uncomfortable doing any of the exercises?
We invite you to do as little or as much as you feel comfortable. We respect that you know how to take care of yourself. We want you to feel good but also fulfilled.
What do I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothes you can move in!
What should I bring?
Upon registration, we will send you a PDF with all of the details about what to bring and where we will be gathering.
What will I get out of this?
We offer simple voice and movement practices you can do anytime to support yourself when things feel wobbly.
Through conversation and community we remind ourselves we are not alone.
You’ll walk away feeling a little steadier, a little more like yourself, with a renewed sense of possibility.

What if your path forward is just waiting for you to walk it?

A Bit About Us

Mattie Shisko
Voice Coach

I know it. I feel it. That moment when the version of you that always knew what to do simply… doesn't show up. The loss of identity and the fracturing of self,
that can come with immense change.
I've been there. More than once. There have been defining moments in my life when the ground gave way beneath me - and I had to find a new way to stand. Somatic practices in voice, movement, breath, and connection literally saved my life. When I began this work over 25 years ago, I didn't know how or why - but my instinct was always the same: go to the body. It just made sense to process and release my hurt, my shame, my grief, my loss and my love there.
To let it move around and through me - to be able to sit alongside it and know it was now just another part that belonged to me.
And then - sometimes slowly, and not all at once - there was joy. Not despite everything. Because of it. Once I understood my autonomic nervous system, it all came together. The body isn't an obstacle, its an ally. When we reconnect with what our voice can do - how it can help us to tap into our potential - we discover we are more resilient than we ever imagined. Our voice - the one others hear and the one only we listen to - becomes a pathway to safety, trust, and real connection. My voice work - The Nervous System Speaks - has carried me to some truly remarkable places: The Master's Series at Oxford, the Communication in Healthcare Conference in Zaragoza, international gatherings with the Polyvagal Institute across the US and Europe. But the work that matters most happens closer to home - with my family and friends, with nonprofit leaders and leaders of my country. This work is for anyone who needs to be heard - and is ready to hear themselves again.

Suzanne Hepburn
Life Coach

It was a shock to me when the cracks in my own life left me standing in a pile of rubble. I'd been so busy being Good, Useful, Busy, that I had failed to notice the whole thing was about to crumble. But when it did, when I was asked to rebuild, I was surprised to find I felt relieved. I found that rediscovering myself was both the key and a delight. That experience is what brought me to this work (and if you'd like to learn more about the specifics, you can read about it here).I'm a certified coach trained in Co-Active Coaching,
Inner Voice Facilitation, and MBTI Assessment. I've worked with executives, artists, and women in midlife. What they have in common is more interesting than what separates them.
What I do is create the conditions for you to hear yourself again. To honestly interrogate the thoughts, beliefs, and fears that are keeping you stuck. To land back in your own body so you can access the clarity that's already there. This workshop has nothing to do with Pilates. But 30 years of movement expertise as a certified Pilates instructor and teacher trainer informs everything I do. The body knows things the mind is still working out, and that's too useful to ignore.Coaching actors taught me something I couldn't have learned any other way: that what blocks us from full expression is almost never a lack of desire. It's the story we're telling ourselves about who we're allowed to be.I believe in self-acceptance over self-improvement, and in joy as a barometer. I work with the mind, the body, and whatever is happening between the two. Because change that lives only in your head doesn't last. That's where we'll begin. Together.
